Feeding Tube Awareness Week
Here's my super tubie's first tube, an NG tube. An NG (nasogastric=nose to tummy) tube is a short term fix to get by... Before his NG tube, he was on TPN (nutrition through an iv) if my memory serves me, the TPN got him through his first surgery. This pic was in late Sept/early Oct when we found out he was aspirating severely. When he was without the breathing tube, he had big oxygen crashes and had to be bagged sometimes. His secretions were going into his lungs. Up til he was 6 months old, he was not allowed to have anything by mouth. The NG tube gave him a chance to get used to having food in his belly. He had it for a very short time, which was good because it was a pain!
